ISRO Space Expo @ Yuvakshetra College, January 27-29, 2023

ISRO SPACE EXP0 2024 INAUGURATION CEREMONY

Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies (YIMS) hosted an enriching ISRO Program at the Basketball Court, Christ Hill on January 27, 2024, starting at 10 am. Sandra Suresh, III B. Com Fin B, served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. The program commenced with a prayer led by  Keerthana, II B. Sc Physics, followed by a warm welcome speech by Dr.Tomy Antony, the Principal of YIMS. The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Mathew George Vazhayil, the Director of YIMS. The inauguration of the ISRO Expo took place at CH Square, with Alfred OV, Assistant Collector Palakkad, officiating the event. Further inaugurations included the Planetarium by His Excellency Mar Peter Kochupurakkal, the Bishop of Palakkad, and the Jubilee Block by Mr. A Prabhakaran, the Hon’ble MLA of Kerala Constituency, Malampuzha. Rev. Dr. Joseph Olikkal Koonal, the Vice Principal of YIMS, and Dr. M. A Sural, the Vice President of PTA YIMS, were felicitated during the program. Ms. Shylaja Menon, the Coordinator of ISRO Expo’ 24, delivered the Vote of Thanks, concluding the event with the National Anthem. The program provided a platform for insightful discussions and collaborations in the field of space exploration and education.

 

DEPARTMENTAL EXHIBITIONS AND COMPETITIONS

Yuvakshethra Institute of management studies in association with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) hosted a space expo on 27th to 29th January, 2024. Various departments of the institution organized varieties of exhibitions and competitions as a part of the expo. The department of computer science conducted a virtual reality exhibition which visitors were given a chance to experience the virtual reality using virtual reality headset. The PG department of Psychology organized an exhibition displaying still models and chart works associated with psychological concepts and set up competitions “Mind Maze” and “Psyquest:Test Your Psychic Potentials using psychological apparatus”. The Department of Geography conducted an exhibition which provided insights into the advancements from descriptive to scientific manner, featuring instruments like Total station, GPS, etc. And also provided detailed information about various maps mainly about toposheets highlighting its geographical importance.

The PG department of English language and literature conducted the Spell Bee context and spot commentary competition for the school students. The department of Management conducted an expo “Space Artistry” which consist of models related to astronomical concepts, a vintage car expo in which old model cars and motorcycles, seven each were displayed, and a competition cum panel discussion and paper presentation “Innotec Symposium” for high school and higher secondary school students. The department of mathematics conducted an exhibition “MATH VAGANZA-where creativity meets logic” which comprised of mathematical still models, working models, mathematical games and puzzles, string arts of geometrical patterns, charts presenting mathematical concepts and geometrical patterns etc.

The Department of Physics, organized a captivating Still and Working Model Competition, “Sci-craft Expo: Innovations in Working and Still Models”, on 27th January, 2024, providing a platform for students from different schools to showcase their models, an illuminating session on “Beyond Our Solar System: An Interactive Tour of Our Universe” by Mr. Vinod Kumar, ISRO Space Tutor, NASA Certified Trainer, and World Robot Olympiad Coach for Team India on 29th January at Sapienza Hall, YIMS, and a Solar Star Gazing and Night Sky Watch of the Moon through telescopes were conducted on 27th and 28th of January, 2024. The Department of Chemistry conducted an exhibition “Magic of Molecules – Beyond The Test Tube showcasing hands-on experiments and demonstrations enlightening the students with the wonders of chemical sciences and conducted an essay writing competition on the topic “Interstellar Alchemy- the role of chemistry in space”.

The PG Department of Commerce and its various sections has conducted various programmes as a part of ISRO Space EXPO. The Finance section hosted a variety of competitions, namely, JAM, Commerce Personality Puzzle and Business Quiz. Virtual trading awareness programme and training were imparted and Commerce business models highlighting the sustainable goal tree were also kept as model for the school students. The section B.Com Computer Application organized an exhibition named “Tribute to missile man of India :Dr.APJ Abdulkalam exhibition “ which showcased the life, achievements and contributions of the eminent scientists. The section B. Com taxation organized a tax avasion awareness program which included educational workshops, guest lectures and interactive sessions, and conducted competitions such as spontaneous story telling, identity challenge and venture vision.

 

 PLANTERIUM

The ISRO Space Expo was held at the Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, featuring an engaging mobile planetarium experience. From January 27th to January 29th 2024 , Running from 9.30 am to 7.00 pm daily, the event accommodated 30 individuals at a time, ensuring an intimate and immersive journey through the cosmos. Two captivating planetariums were stationed—one at CH Square and the other at Symphony Auditorium—offering attendees a chance to explore the wonders of space from different vantage points. Participants universally praised the event, sharing their positive experiences and expressing their awe at the mesmerizing visuals and educational content presented. Of particular note was the enthusiastic response from school students, who found the planetarium experience to be especially captivating and informative. Overall, the mobile planetarium event at the ISRO Space Expo proved to be a hit, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended and furthering the institute’s mission of fostering space exploration and education.

SOLAR STAR GAZING EVENT BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS FOR B. SC. PHYSICS STUDENTS

The Department of Physics organized an enlightening event titled “Solar Star Gazing” aimed at providing an immersive and educational experience for students pursuing B. Sc. Physics. The primary objective of the Solar Star Gazing event was to offer BSc Physics students a hands-on opportunity to observe and study solar activities.The event took place on 27th – 29th January at YIMS, where students gathered to witness the wonders of the sun through specially equipped telescopes. Faculty members from the Department of Physics, specializing in astrophysics and solar physics, provided expert guidance throughout the event. Their insights and explanations added context to the students’ observations, bridging theoretical concepts with practical applications.  Specially designed solar telescopes were set up to allow students to safely observe the sun. These telescopes were equipped with solar filters to protect the eyes and provided detailed views of sunspots.

 

NIGHT SKY WATCH OF THE MOON THROUGH TELESCOPE ORGANIZED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS FOR STUDENTS 

The Department of Physics orchestrated a captivating event, inviting students to partake in a “Night Sky Watch of the Moon” through telescopes. This initiative aimed to provide an immersive and awe-inspiring experience for participants, fostering a deeper appreciation for celestial bodies and observational astronomy. The primary objective of the Night Sky Watch event was to offer students an opportunity to observe the Moon up close through telescopes.

The event unfolded on 27th & 28th January at YIMS, where students gathered under the night sky to witness the magnificence of the Moon through telescopic observation. As the night sky unfolded, students took turns observing the Moon through the telescopes. This real-time experience allowed them to witness lunar craters, creating a connection between theoretical knowledge and practical observation.

SESSION ON FOUR YEAR UG PROGRAMME

The Yuvakshetra College took a commendable initiative by hosting a seminar on the newly introduced Four-Year Undergraduate Programme as per the New Education Policy 2020. The program began promptly at 11.00 am on 28th January, with the inaugural address delivered by Dr. Sudheendran K, the esteemed Research Officer from the Kerala State Higher Education, Reforms Implementation Cell. The Vice Principal, Rev. Dr. Joseph Olikkalkoonal extended a welcome to all the dignitaries and felicitated the chief guest for his invaluable contribution to the field of higher education. The seminar drew participants from various colleges around Palakkad, including both teachers and students. The diverse audience contributed to a rich and engaging discussion on the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, reflecting the widespread interest and importance of the topic. Dr. Sudheendran K highlighted the key features and benefits of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme, addressing queries and concerns from the audience. Interactive sessions were conducted, encouraging active participation from teachers and students, fostering a collaborative learning environment.

 

“BEYOND OUR SOLAR SYSTEM: AN INTERACTIVE TOUR OF OUR UNIVERSE” SESSION

The Department of Physics organized an illuminating session titled “Beyond Our Solar System: An Interactive Tour of Our Universe.” The session took place on 29th January 2024 at Sapienza Hall, attracting a diverse audience of students eager to embark on a cosmic exploration. The session featured an esteemed speaker with a multifaceted expertise, recognized as an ISRO Space Tutor, NASA Certified Trainer, and World Robot Olympiad Coach for Team India. The session featured interactive displays, including simulations, and visualizations that allowed participants to virtually traverse the cosmos. Attendees could explore distant galaxies, planetary systems, and black holes, enhancing their understanding of the mind-boggling scale of the universe.

DIFFERENT STALLS.

At the Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, as part of the ISRO Space Expo 2024, a diverse array of stalls showcased various products and initiatives to engage and educate visitors. Medical Camps offered health services and information, ensuring the well-being of attendees. The Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) stall at CH Square provided insights into forestry and conservation efforts. The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) presented stalls featuring handmade ornaments, handicrafts, traditional snacks, honey, vinegar, squash, jam, and millets, promoting local craftsmanship and sustainable practices. Gramika showcased jute products, handmade bags, and millets, emphasizing eco-friendly alternatives. South Sun Thrissur highlighted agro-nursery products, while Global Eco Mart showcased areca leaf products, both emphasizing environmental sustainability. The PSSP stall featured a water conservation live model, raising awareness about water conservation efforts. Additionally, stalls such as Millet Stall by M. James Mundur and NSS Millet Stall promoted the consumption and benefits of millets. The Indian Railways Training Centre (IRTC) stall and the Polytechnic stall offered insights into their respective fields. The Drone Expo and the Automobile Expo featuring vintage cars and bikes showcased technological advancements and automotive history. Lastly, the Centre for Indian Medical Heritage Expo provided insights into the rich medical heritage of India. Overall, these stalls collectively contributed to the immersive and educational experience of the ISRO Space Expo 2024, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

 

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION 

Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies (YIMS) concluded its ISRO Space Expo 2024 with a grand Valedictory Function held at CH Square on January 27, 2024, starting at 3.30 pm. The event was expertly hosted by Ms. Hema S, Assistant Professor from the PG Department of English. Ms. Archana Gopan,  from the PG Department of English, led a prayer. Ms. Shylaja Menon, Head of the Department of Management and the Programme Convener, delivered a warm welcome speech. The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Tomy Antony, the Principal of YIMS, offering insightful reflections on the significance of the Expo. Reverend Dr. Lino Emmatty, Assistant Director of YIMS, was felicitated during the function. Mementos were distributed to individuals for their outstanding contributions to the stall displays in the ISRO Exhibition, acknowledging their efforts and dedication. Mr. Josen P Jose, Superintendent of YIMS, extended gratitude to all participants, organizers, and attendees in the Vote of Thanks, marking the conclusion of the event with the National Anthem. The Valedictory Function provided a fitting end to a successful and enlightening ISRO Space Expo, celebrating the spirit of exploration and innovation.
