Language, being skill oriented, can be learned only by practising the four skills: of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Since its inception in 2012, the Department of English in Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies is committed to equip the students well versed in the field of language and literature through diverse academic activities. The department always strives to inculcate the humane aspects in the character formation of students and instill in them values such as compassion, open-mindedness, empathy and integrity to transform them to be better human beings. The creative sensibility of the students is ignited by giving exposure to distinctive literary and linguistic experiences within the coherent curriculum framework. They are given ample opportunities to horn their literary talents.

In order to meet the advanced academic requirements of the learners, extension lectures, national seminars, workshops and symposia are organized. Our students are encouraged to equip themselves with the changing trends in the world of literary research by presenting and publishing academic papers and scholarly articles in National and International Seminars and Journals respectively. The department ensures that the students get adequate exposure to enhance their communicative competence along with their literary skills to effectively indulge in cross cultural exchanges in future.

The Department of English is committed to pursuit of excellence in the field of English Language and Literature in order to foster the future generations with adequate proficiency to meet and overcome all the challenges of personal and professional life. We provide our students, all the adequate and sufficient training on the curricular and extracurricular literary areas so that they can be associated with diverse socio-cultural and linguistic experiences which would in turn help them to shape their personality to become promising members of the humankind.

Programmes Offered

The Programme aims to have an in-depth study of a wide spectrum of literature in English spanning from ancient Greek and Latin Literature in translation to contemporary literature. It helps students to understand the belief systems, historical, cultural and philosophical influences that shaped literature through different ages. It traces the development of different genres of literature. It helps them recognise and discuss the stylistic aspects along with ideological shifts and major trends through a representative study of its dominant figures and different periods.

Job Opportunities

M.A English graduates can join the media as reporters, either in news channels or in newspapers. Corporate communication is another lucrative career path for English graduates. Content development and ITES firms also recruit English post graduates. Some of the other job designations are:

B.A. English – Stands for Bachelor of Arts in English. It’s a 3 year degree course in semester pattern and each semester consists of six months. The Bachelor programme is designed for those students who have a wide range of career goals and objectives. It is aimed to produce men and women who wish to communicate effectively and think deeply as well as creatively about the ideas that have shaped and continue to shape our world. The programme is specially crafted to enable students to explore writing and speech in a wide range of forms and develop their skills in the interpretation of literary and non literary texts. Our mission is to challenge students to go beyond the conventional patterns of academic mediocrity.

This course programme is designed for those students who have a wide range of career goals and objectives. It is aimed to produce men and women who wish to communicate effectively and think deeply as well as creatively about the ideas that have shaped and continue to shape our world. The programme is specially crafted to enable students to explore writing and speech in a wide range of forms and develop their skills in the interpretation of literary and non  literary texts. Our mission is to challenge students to go beyond the conventional patterns of academic mediocrity.

You will study a range of literature, from classics to modern novels, and poetry. Understanding their implied meanings is part of the territory. Similes, metaphors and interpretations will be part of the course. If you don’t enjoy reading, you will face a tough time.
