The Department of Mathematics started its Math Club ‘INFINITO’ with mission ‘Unlocking Mathematics’ on October 15, 2020 at 10:45 am through Google Meet. Since October 15 is celebrated as World Mathematics Day, this day was chosen to begin the activities of the math club. The event was presided by Dr Tomy Antony, Principal YIMS. Ms Saritha Chandran C, Asst Professor in Mathematics, Govt Polytechnic College Palakkad inaugurated the function. She inspired the students by her valuable words which included the activities that the math club is expected to do for making mathematics learning, an enjoyable process. The first video on ‘Cultural Heritage of Mathematics’ prepared by math club members was released by Rev Fr Dr Mathew George Vazhayil, Director YIMS and later uploaded in the official YouTube channel of the club for public view. Rev Fr Dr Lalu Olikkal, Vice Principal, YIMS and Prof T K Rajan, HoD Mathematics gave felicitations. Miss Darshana D, Secretary, Math Club presented welcome speech and Miss Aparnna S, proposed the vote of thanks. All the faculties and students of mathematics department participated in the event. The meeting ended at 11:45am.
The club aims at organizing activities such as lectures, presentations, quizzes, puzzles, videos on model making etc that make learning mathematics simpler and develop an enthusiastic interest towards the subject. These activities will further facilitate for the development of a Mathematics Lab in the college. The club started its official you tube channel on October 13, 2020 and a promo video on math club infinito was released in the College Academic Council meeting held on 14 October 2020. The club has planned to upload some activities in you tube channel every week. As this is perfectly students’ programme, it will be handled by the students of the department but with the strong support, advice and monitoring by the staff advisors Ms Steeja I F and Ms Radhika V S along with the ideas of all the faculties of the department and HoD.
