BUILDING CAREERS WITH DATA SCIENCE AND ANALYTICS:SALARY INSIGHTS AND ANALYTICS

The Department of Computer Science of Yuvakshetra Institute of Management Studies, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized an impactful session titled “Building Careers with Data Science and Analytics: Salary Insights and AI Opportunities” on September 22, 2025, at Sapienza Hall from 10:30 AM onwards. The event aimed to provide students with insights into the growing fields of data science, artificial intelligence, and analytics, highlighting career pathways, required skills, and industry expectations.

The programme was officially inaugurated by Ms. Greeshma S, Data Science Mentor at Entri App and a proud alumna of the Department of Computer Science, YIMS, who emphasized the importance of acquiring industry-relevant skills, embracing continuous learning, and exploring the wide range of opportunities in the field of AI and data science.

Serving as the resource person, Ms. Greeshma S delivered an engaging and informative session covering the following key aspects:

  • Career Pathways in Data Science: Exploring the different roles including Data Analyst, Data Scientist, AI Engineer, and Machine Learning Specialist.
  • Salary Insights and Industry Demands: Providing an overview of current trends in the job market and compensation structures for data professionals.
  • Skill Development: Highlighting the importance of programming, data analysis, cloud platforms, and AI tools for career growth.
  • Hands-on Demonstration: Training a simple machine learning model with the participation of two students, classifying them into two categories, and showcasing how the model could recognize which class each student belonged to. This interactive activity provided a practical understanding of how machine learning models work.
  • Opportunities in Artificial Intelligence: Discussing emerging domains such as generative AI, automation, and real-world applications of AI in business and society.

The session inspired students by showing how data science and AI are transforming industries and creating rewarding career opportunities.

The event was led by Ms. Aswathy Nair, I BSc Artificial Intelligence, who served as the Master of Ceremony (MC) and ensured the smooth flow of the programme. The session began with a prayer led by Angel Mariya K V , Krithika S and Shahanaz A, I BSc Computer Science students, which set a reflective and welcoming tone.

Ms. B. Lakshmi, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, delivered the Welcome Address, emphasizing the importance of industry-oriented sessions that bridge the gap between academics and professional careers.

The Presidential Address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Joseph Olikkal Koonal, Vice Principal of YIMS, who highlighted the transformative potential of data science and AI in shaping the future, and encouraged students to embrace new technologies with confidence.

Notable felicitations were offered by Ms. Meena Jose Komban, Head of the Department of Computer Science, who stressed the need for skill-based education and professional preparedness. The session also reflected the department’s commitment to fostering connections between alumni and the institution, demonstrating how student journeys can inspire current batches.

A token of appreciation was presented to Ms. Greeshma S, acknowledging her contribution as a resource person and her continued association with the institution as a distinguished alumna.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Sreelakshmi R, III BSc Computer Science, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, the speaker, and participants for their contributions to the success of the session.

Finally, the session ended with the National Anthem, led by the prayer group, marking a dignified conclusion to the programme.

The event successfully created an environment of learning and motivation, enabling students to better understand career opportunities in data science and AI. By addressing industry expectations, salary insights, essential skills, and demonstrating a live model training activity, the session contributed significantly to preparing students for a future in one of the most dynamic and promising fields of technology.
