Competitions : Story and Poem writing
Seminar : Introduction to SCILAB
Venue : Jubilee Block
Date : 25-09-2019 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)
The Department of Mathematics is conducting Mathematics story and poem writing competitions for higher secondary schools students as a part of celebrating Mathematics Story Telling Day on September 25, 2019. Participation of plus2 students from your school to contest in these competitions and to attend the seminar is highly solicited as these events will be a motivation and opportunity for them to know their creativity and practical oriented learning of mathematics. There will be cash prices (Rs. 1000, Rs. 750, Rs. 500) for the first, second and third performers in the competitions.
The competitions will be of 2 hours duration; conducted from 10.a.m to 12 noon after the inaugural ceremony at 9.30 a.m. Registration will start at 9.a.m on that day. All the contestants will be given a participation certificate on the same day. But the cash prices for the winners can be given only on a later date after the final judgment, since the evaluation process is a time consuming task.
On the same day in the afternoon (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.), the mathematical software SCILAB will be introduced to the participants. SCILAB, a Computer Algebraic System (CAS), is the most popular free software which facilitates graphical, algebraic and numerical approaches to many of the mathematical concepts. It is also an alternative to highly priced MATLAB, providing a platform for high level programming.
We hereby request you to send a list of students (maximum 5 Nos.) for participating in this programme on or before 20-09-2019.
