Fibonacci Day is celebrated all over the world to honour one of the most influential mathematicians of the Middle Ages Leonardo Fibonacci on Nov 23, of which mm/dd format (11/23) is at the beginning of Fibonacci sequence: 1,1,2,3, 5, 8, 13 … One of the beauties of this sequence is that the series is evident in nature, art and architecture. Petal arrangements in flowers, the ordering of leaves in plants, the shell of the nautilus, the DNA molecule etc. show patterns that correspond to the sequence. The ratio of two successive numbers in the Fibonacci sequence is very close to the Golden Ratio (1.6 nearly). Objects whose length and breadth in the Golden Ratio are thought to be the most pleasing to the eye.
The department of Mathematics in Yuvakshetra College is celebrating this day with various programmes on 27-11-2018(Tuesday) for the college and school students to have the awareness of mathematical explanations of natural phenomena.
